August Prayer Letter
Ramadan
Greetings in the month of Ramadan from Bangladesh. I do hope all of you will be praying for us this month but more importantly praying for the Muslim world. Yesterday as I prayed I felt the Lord gave me a good prayer to pray. "Lord, may this Ramadan be the beginning of a spiritual journey toward You for many people." The prayer guide as well as other resources are available at: http://www.30-days.net/. You can order the prayer guide or you can download the guide in several formats. Pray for us that we may be the light to help many people walk toward the Light!
While many people's summer is over our summer will continue for two more weeks. I'm happy to say I feel we have had a very successful summer. There have been lots of social activities extra fun and even some summer courses. I am hoping the best part of our summer is still yet to come as we leave this Wednesday morning for a 10 day vacation in the South of Thailand. We will be staying at the OMF Christian Guest house which is located on the beach. We are looking forward to: no email, no accounting, a change environment and RELAXATION.
Ministry in Saydabad
I think the ministry in Saydabad is going on in two ways. On one hand I am feeling many of our workers are either a bit discouraged or feeling that motivation is difficult to find. On the other hand the ministry is really going well. We now have three cell groups running, albeit very slowly our training of committee workers and health workers continues and, in general the primary health care ministry and children's ministry are going quite well. Please pray for these heroes of faith who daily face a great deal of opposition. Pray their light will shine.
LAMB Project (Lutheran Aid to Medicine in Bangladesh)
www.lambproject.org/
A few months ago I was approached by the board members of LAMB project and asked to become a board member. I very nearly dismissed the idea out of hand, but the night before the meeting where I planned to let them know I just didn't have the time the Lord woke me up and spoke to me to listen to their heart. A long story made short: with peace in my heart this was the will of God I joined the board.
Tonight I leave for my first board meeting with the LAMB project. The meeting will be in Dinajpur which is in the Northwest of Bangladesh. You can look at the website and see all the work they do but it is a huge work effecting many people in the neediest region of Bangladesh. The board recruited me because they knew I grounded in community development principles and committed to evangelism. I am looking forward to learning from the board members and the project as well as contributing to LAMB what God has sown into my heart over the last 20 years.
YWAM Trust
One of the projects Marjorie and I have done this summer is research into the rules and regulations of NGO's and trusts in the nation. In a nation where truth is a very flexible idea this is always an... interesting project. We started with the idea that God was leading us to begin an NGO, but we soon became convinced this was not the path God was leading us on. In the end I felt God was asking me to be more involved in the administration of the YWAM Trust. Actually, I am not sure what that means exactly yet. I can tell you that I marvel at God's gentle ways of leading us into things that we would not be open to thinking about without His gentle hand upon us.
May His love and mercy overwhelm you everyday.
In Him,
David
